Test of Adult Basic Education(TABE)
The Test of Adult Basic Education is administered to adult students enrolling in an academic program at West Area Adult School.
What is the TABE?
The TABE test is designed to assess reading, mathematics, language, and spelling skills. It covers five content areas: Reading, Mathematics Computation, Applied Mathematics, Language, and Spelling.
For whom was the TABE designed?
TABE satisfies a wide range of audiences, including high school equivalency or GED programs, vocational programs, welfare-to-work programs, and adult basic education programs.
How is the TABE used at West Area Adult?
We use the TABE to assess the basic educational skills of incoming students. Our counselor uses the results to assist the student in planning an appropriate course of study in the adult school setting.
Is there a fee to take the TABE test?
Yes, there is a $15.00 cash fee to take the test.
How long does it take to complete the TABE?

The TABE is a timed test. It takes
approximately 4 hours to complete. You are allowed to take breaks
between timed test sections and we have a break room area where you may
purchase light snacks.
Plan on arriving early to test.
What do testers need to bring?
Testers are required to bring:
- A picture ID (Florida State Driver's License, a Florida State ID, or a passport)
- $15.00 cash fee
Testers are requested to bring:
- An original social security card (What if I don't have one?)

NO Electronic devices are permitted during testing. (ex. cell phones, Bluetooth headsets, beepers, CDs, DVDs, radios, iPods etc.) Possession of such devices may be cause for invalidation. NO food or drinks are permitted in the testing room.
When and Where is the TABE offered?
The TABE is offered to new incoming students at West Area Adult School. Refer to the testing schedule below. Directions to West Area can be found on our Welcome page.
TABE TESTING DATES and TIMES
Testers are required to bring:
- A picture ID (Florida State Driver's License, a Florida State ID, or a passport)
- $15.00 cash fee
Testers are requested to bring:

Report to the Guidance Office at times listed to begin testing.
Testing takes approximately four (4) hours.
